Transition PacketThere are currently 80 students with deaf-blindness of transition age on the Maryland census. Young adults with deaf-blindness create a particular challenge to an over-burdened adult service system with decreased financial resources. Families of these young adults need concise and accurate information to assist them in the transition planning process. In collaboration with MSDE/DSE, a packet has been developed and has been disseminated to all families with a child who is 14 years of age or older. The packet includes current state resources, regulations and guidelines, a checklist and reminders for successful transition planning, and contact numbers for important individuals and agencies. The packet will be updated as needed to reflect changes that occur at the state or local level. The initial mailing took place in the Fall of 2005. Subsequent mailings are made at the beginning of each school year. In addition, packets are distributed at all project activities in which the focus of the training is transition. Information about the packets is available in the newsletter and on the website, and individuals may request a copy at anytime. For more information or to request a packet, please contact Donna Riccobono |
